Healing Guide
Tattoo Aftercare
Proper aftercare is as important as the tattoo itself. Follow these instructions carefully to protect your investment and ensure the best possible healing.
✦
Immediately After
0–4 Hours
- —Keep the protective wrap or film on for 2–4 hours (or as instructed).
- —Remove wrap carefully in a clean environment.
- —Gently wash with unscented antibacterial soap and lukewarm water using clean hands.
- —Pat completely dry with a clean paper towel — do not rub.
✦
Days 2–7
The Peeling Phase
- —Apply a thin layer of unscented, dye-free moisturiser 2–3 times daily (Bepanthen, Lubriderm, or similar).
- —Avoid submerging in water (baths, pools, sea). Showers are fine but keep them short.
- —Do not pick, scratch, or peel flaking skin — let it shed naturally.
- —Wear loose, breathable clothing over the tattooed area.
- —Avoid direct sun exposure on the healing tattoo.
✦
Weeks 2–4
Superficial Healing
- —Skin may appear dull or milky — this is normal as the outer layer regenerates.
- —Continue moisturising as needed.
- —Avoid exfoliation on the tattooed area.
- —Begin applying SPF 50+ sunscreen if exposure is unavoidable.
✦
Months 2–6
Deep Healing
- —Full skin healing occurs beneath the surface during this period.
- —Colours may appear slightly faded — they will settle and brighten as skin normalises.
- —Always use SPF on tattooed skin in sun-exposed areas.
- —If anything looks abnormal (excessive redness, swelling, oozing), consult a medical professional.
What to Avoid
- ✕Sunbeds and direct sun on healing tattoos
- ✕Swimming in pools, sea, or hot tubs
- ✕Picking or scratching
- ✕Tight clothing on fresh tattoos
- ✕Alcohol-based products on the tattoo
- ✕Heavy gym sessions in the first 48 hours
- ✕Petroleum jelly (Vaseline) — it blocks the skin
